The bassoon program of our new Krommer CD presents itself with surprise effects, wit and brilliance. And again I wonder why Franz Krommer was completely forgotten for a long time after his death. After all, the highly esteemed musician from Moravia was extremely popular in his day and is regarded as a successful Viennese composer, who even Beethoven felt at times to be a competing rival
Although the quartets for bassoon, two violas and violoncello op. 46 recorded for cpo correspond to the conventional structure of the movement, they nevertheless open up all artistic-creative freedom. And that Krommer does not have to shy away from comparison with role models and "grandmasters" is documented by the Sonata for Bassoon and Cello KV 292 by W. A. Mozart, also recorded on the CD
The bassoonist Eckort Hübner interprets the cheerful and enchanting pieces together with Johannes Lüthy, Steuart Eaton (Batschen) and Reinhard Latzko (Violoncello)
An entertaining listening pleasure not only for wind enthusiasts
