A fascinating exploration into the passionate rhythm of tango with today's musical innovators, focusing on the new wave of artists who are reviving and pushing the boundaries of tango. Flowing with energy and style, 'The Rough Guide to Tango Revival' features new tango from the clubs and dance floors of Argentina and beyond, where the next generation of musicians distil tango's enduring magic and popularity.
Also included is a great bonus CD by Carlos Gardel, entitled 'King Of Tango'. A tango legend, Carlos Gardel (1887-1935) helped to make tango popular throughout the world. During his lifetime, he recorded over 900 songs, starred in numerous films and was instrumental in transforming the formerly lowlife dance style into a mass culture enjoyed by all social classes. Everything about Gardel - his perfect voice, his suavity, his arrogance and his machismo - equalled tango at the height of its power. Gardel's recording of 'Mi Noche Triste' in 1917 kicked off Buenos Aires' tango canción scene and many leading tango singers performing today look to 'the creole thrush' - as he is nicknamed - for inspiration.
