Music To Soothe The Savage Snake Plant
Attention music and plant lovers!
Sacred Bones proudly presents the rare re-release "Mother Earth's Plantasia" by Canadian composer Mort Garson. This is the very first official reissue of the cult album that is coveted and out of print among record collectors and still sells for collector's prices on online exchanges like Discogs.
Released in 1976, the LP was originally created to sprinkle indoor plants for attention. Album highlights include tracks with such euphonious titles as "Symphony For A Spider Plant" and "Music To Soothe The Savage Snake Plant." Plantasia" was inspired by "The Secret Life Of Plants", a non-fiction book written by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird, which attracted a lot of attention in the mid-70s.
In it, occultist and former OSS agent Tompkins, along with dowser and former CIA agent Bird, claimed that houseplants can read our minds, predict natural disasters and, above all, love to listen to music.
"Plantasia" is among the first records to use a Moog. Garson composed "Plantasia" at the time for Los Angeles-based plant store Mother Earth, using the recently released Moog synthesizer for the recordings. The album was sold specifically to customers who stocked up on plants at Mother Earth.
