After more than 220 albums, Jordi Savall is still full of surprises and does just that with this exhilarating recording of a masterpiece from the Middle Ages. Composed in 1325 and rediscovered in 1904, the Codex Las Huelgas is the only manuscript of its time still preserved in its original location: a Cistercian monastery on the road to Compostella in northern Spain. It grants us privileged access to the music written in the three centuries before its completion. Jordi Savall has selected 11 of the 186 pieces in the collection. His ensembles La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Hespèrion XXI reveal all the beauty of this fascinating music.
