Recorded in two days in the summer of 1967, "Nefertiti" is the last all-acoustic album by Miles Davis, with no compositions by Miles himself. Most of the tracks were written by Wayne Shorter & Herbie Hancock. The album is best known for the unusual title track, where the horns repeat the melody and the rhythm section improvises (instead of the other way around). Although an acoustic album, it signals Miles' transition from bop to jazz fusion; a reference to the next albums, Miles in the Sky and the critically acclaimed In A Silent Way. "Nefertiti" is a quiet album of subtle nuances, where the musicians listen to each other wonderfully and at the same time are still committed to the tradition of Hard Bob. Jazz connoisseurs call "Nefertiti" the last and necessary step Davis had to take before he could devote himself to fusion jazz. Britton on the Gain2 system in Sebastopol, and you can hear the quietness from which the music emerges better than on any previous version.
