Gounod's masterpiece becomes the Royal Opera's most magnificent production thanks to David McVicar's multi-layered and theatrically exuberant staging, with a relocation of the drama to Paris during the Second Empire, spectacular sets and costumes and extensive dancing. Michael Fabiano as the seductively witty Faust, Erwin Schrott as the diabolical Méphistophélès and Irina Lungu as the passionate Marguerite are accompanied by the Royal Opera Chorus and a cast of Royal Opera favorites. Dan Ettinger conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra in Gounod's wonderfully melodious score.
