The impression is not deceptive: right from the first work of this production, a concerto from the rich oeuvre of Bach's contemporary Johann Friedrich Fasch, a "Brandenburgian" atmosphere spreads out, which becomes increasingly tangible as the program progresses. After virtuoso pieces by Johann David Heinichen, Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel and Melchior Hoffmann, the Leipzig Thomaskantor finally surprises with the Sinfonia to his Cantata No. 174, a magnificent, lavishly scored variant of the first movement from the Third Brandenburg Concerto - another great challenge for the two main protagonists of the plot, who perform true wonders on their natural horns and hunting trumpets in conjunction with the inspiring ensemble L'arpa festante.
