The bassoon is generally regarded as the joker in the orchestra. It can cackle, growl unwillingly, sing bass arias in the deepest cellar and crow at the highest heights the next moment. But its lyricism is also beguiling, and as a serious storyteller it can sing of poignant things. Dag Jensen has fanned out the whole range of what is possible here in the most diverse facets. The two classical composers from Germany and Finland are a perfect match for the Norwegian Olav Berg (*1949), who wrote his new opus especially for this recording - just as Carl Maria von Weber and Bernhard Henrik Crusell once wrote their concertante works when the virtuosos who wanted to take them on tour were already sitting on packed suitcases. Of course, there is no sign of this. What you feel from beginning to end is a shared sense of the stage, on which the protagonist is allowed to pull out all the stops: sometimes funny, sometimes wistful, sociable or in solitary contemplation ...
