Child are a trio of jam-obsessed, top-notch session musicians who came together in Melbourne's rock underground in 2012. Between the three working class Australians Mathias (guitar/vocals), Michael (drums) and Jayden (bass), who can best be described as blues fanatics with liquid steel for blood, a musical bond grew as strong as a group of musicians can only grow and nurture through an unrelenting drive for intense jamming.
The band's self-imposed goal had not changed: the magical intensity of Child's live shows was to be transferred intimately and unadulterated to the new recordings and they began to form a sluggish, sonic elemental force that would make good old doom metal pale in comparison to the perfect protoplasm, into which Mathias was able to inject many very lively blues cells with his black swamp blues-sounding vocals and guitar playing.
The two-month recording process, which took place in an old turn-of-the-century warehouse - a live recording with just enough space for blues-typical improvisations - resulted in a refreshing alternative to the currently booming heavy blues rock, because "Blueside" manages, strangely enough, on the one hand to place a very primal blues full of expressiveness even more in the foreground and yet also appeal to real doom fans, for whom the underlying heaviness of all the instruments plays right into their guts.
