Popis
World premiere recordings of medieval and contemporary spiritual songs, including James MacMillan Os mutorum and John Tavener Two Hadiths. Carmina Celtica features the world premiere of nine contemporary works commissioned over the course of a decade by Canty, Scotland's Anonymous 4. The ensemble combines contemporary works by Sir John Tavener and James MacMillan with haunting medieval chant to create the unique and beautiful soundscape for which it is renowned. Described by The Times as "one of the finest creative talents of his generation", Sir John Tavener wrote "Two Hadiths" specifically for Canty Prophet Mohammed in 2007. James MacMillan is the outstanding Scottish composer of his generation. Os mutorum was commissioned for Canty in 2008 and is both moving and expressive. Ivan Moody has set the words of Hildegard of Bingen to music in his contribution O quam mirabilis. The Telegraph calls his music "powerfully expressive" and this 2006 work demonstrates the emotional power of female choral singing. Michael McGlynn describes Lorica as emphasizing "the tonal purity of Canty and recalls a time of delicate vocal color and phrasing." but fluid musical constraints'.
