Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman, was a famous American singer, songwriter and musician. He was born on December 5, 1932 in Macon, Georgia. He was a pioneer of the early rock'n'roll era and is often referred to as the "architect of rock'n'roll". Little Richard grew up in the southern states and was strongly influenced by gospel music, so he began performing at a young age. He began his career in the late 1940s as a performer in traveling shows and honed his skills as a pianist and singer. It wasn't until 1955, when he signed with Specialty Records, that he found success. That same year, Little Richard released his first hit single, "Tutti Frutti", which was a huge success and helped define the sound of rock and roll.
