In the course of their close collaboration with cpo, L'Orfeo Barockorchester and its director Michi Gaigg have "played" an impressive discography, ranging from baroque and classical instrumental works to Schubert's symphonies, from rarely performed compositions by Telemann to Haydn's delicious Incontro improvviso. New to the cpo catalog is the subtle, spirited ensemble's exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach: Seven sacred solo cantatas make up the program, in which two proven specialists in early music set the vocal tone - Dutch bass-baritone Peter Kooij, who was awarded the Leipzig Bach Medal in 2016 for good reason, and his Austrian colleague, alto Margot Oitzinger, vividly demonstrate how efforts were made to show Christians the right path in the time of the great St. Thomas cantor.
