Last year, guitarist Julian Lage ("one of the world's most dazzling improvisers" NY TIMES) met for the first time with fellow guitarist Bill Frisell on his second Blue Note album, "View With A Room" - a summit meeting of two top guitarists, so to speak. What could have been a pure showcase of two technical masters became instead a "grandiose album" (SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG), a "great guitar happiness" (FONO FORUM/Jazzalbum of the month) and "sovereignly deeply relaxed" (STEREOPLAY/Audiophile CD of the month). As a "follow-up" to this musical bonanza, "The Layers" is now released with six more Lage originals recorded during the same sessions, again exploring a wide range of guitar sounds and textures as Lage and Frisell seamlessly blend their individual 6-string styles.
