City Lights is a journey through the world. Violinist Lisa Batiashvili relates musical works to important places in her life. The autobiographical concept for City Lights takes as its starting point the cities that have special personal, musical or violinistic significance in Batiashvili's life. "No matter where you go or how far away you end up, you always keep a special relationship with places that were once a part of you," says the violinist. I wanted to express my love for the music, the culture and the people of these places and explore what is so special about them in a positive, individual sense. For the new Special Edition of City Lights, Lisa Batiashvili has recorded a new work: Connected to the city of Rio de Janeiro, this 10inch vinyl exclusively features Antonio Carlos Jobim and Newton Mendonca's world-famous Desafinando in a stunning arrangement for violin, guitar, piano, bass and orchestra. Cleverly, this recording is combined with a new arrangement of CITY MEMORIES and other tracks from the original album, which she recorded with artists including Katie Melua, Till Brönner and Maximilian Hornung. City Lights combines a wide variety of genres, including classical, film music, jazz and tango.
