Rafael Kubelík championed the music of Béla Bartók throughout his life. With the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he succeeded in 1973 with an interpretation of the Concerto for Orchestra that is still regarded as a reference recording today. "A performance that makes you smile with joy again and again (...) Kubelik presents a relaxed view with rhythms that emphasize the wit and, above all, the peasant cheerfulness." (Gramophone)
To mark its 125th anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon has launched the reissue of legendary recordings in the highest sound quality: The audiophile vinyl series The Original Source presents outstanding recordings from the 1970s in a completely new sound quality. The renowned Emil Berliner Studios have remastered and edited the original four-track tapes in 100% analog quality (AAA) using technologies specially developed for the production of the series. The sonic differences to the original releases are considerable: greater clarity, more subtleties and improvements in the frequency response, as well as less background noise, distortion and compression make for an audiophile listening experience like never before.
The copies of this series will be released on 180g vinyl records and in a deluxe gatefold edition with original covers and lyrics, limited and numbered, accompanied by additional photos and facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes, and an article explaining the exact technical background.
