With this box set of 16 sonatas for piano and violin, Renaud Capuçon and Kit Armstrong present the brilliance of Mozart's chamber music. Together they bring to life the incredible variety and different facets of Mozart's genius. Renaud Capuçon describes the musical relationship with Kit Armstrong as "truly inspiring. Everything works in a completely uncomplicated and natural way. And after playing these sonatas in Salzburg, we knew immediately that we wanted to record them. To perform these pieces with Kit is to embark on a wonderful musical journey." And Kit Armstrong adds, "Basically, I would say that we trusted Mozart's music deeply, as well as our listeners. We do not intentionally simplify the expression of the music, we do not resolve ambiguities, and we do not seek evasions from any of its manifold characters. However, we did not choose a historicizing interpretation; on the contrary, it was particularly rewarding to experience how all the beauty of Mozart's music could unfold even within a later sound aesthetic. When I hear Renaud play Mozart's melodies with all the lushness and refinement that modern violin playing has to offer, I am convinced: it is beautiful, and that is what counts".
