This chamber music production brings us two "round" dates - the 150th anniversary of the death of the French composer Louise Farrenc, who died in Paris on September 15, 1875 after a successful career; and the 75th birthday of her Russian colleague Elena Firsova, who saw the light of day in Leningrad on March 21, 1950 and had every reason to rejoice in the "grace of late birth". Her piano quartet, now ten years old, is at the heart of the program, in which Louise Farrenc once again demonstrates her impressive creative power with her first piano quintet, while at the end her compatriot Mél(anie) Bonis (1858-1937) deserves admiring attention for her first quartet, whose almost Art Nouveau-like melodies and sonorities are without question some of the most beautiful chamber music written shortly after the turn of the century.
