In 2014, Rhino teamed up with Renaissance woman Joni Mitchell to celebrate her career with a CD box set titled LOVE HAS MANY FACES: A QUARTET, A BALLET, WAITING TO BE DANCED. It was a unique collection curated by Mitchell herself, but it was no easy task to put together. "I wanted the music to feel like a complete work, a new work," Mitchell said in a statement at the time of the set's initial release. "But no matter what I did, at this length, it remained just a collection of songs. I'm a painter who writes songs. My songs are very visual. The words create scenes... What I've done here is collect some of those scenes (like a documentary filmmaker) and work them into a whole new body of work through juxtaposition. I had 40 years of footage to sift through. Suddenly, the scenes started to come together. Then series began to form. Instead of being an emotional roller coaster ride as before - compressed into a single disc - themes began to emerge. Moods persisted. I was getting there... When this long editorial process (two years) finally came to rest, I had four ballets, or a ballet in four acts - a quartet. I also had a box set." This year Mitchell turns 75, and to celebrate this milestone in her life and career, Rhino is releasing LOVE HAS MANY FACES on vinyl for the first time. Limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies, the set comes in deluxe hardcover folio packaging and spreads its 53 songs across eight 180-gram LPs. Etchings of Mitchell's artwork are featured on four individual album sides, each depicting the end of a different act of the ballet.
