Just a few days before alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley recorded his emblematic and only Blue Note album "Somethin' Else" with Miles Davis, Art Blakey and other greats, he went into the studio one last time with his regular quintet to record "Cannonball's Sharpshooters" for the EmArcy label. The ensemble presented a compact farewell program with classics by Tadd Dameron and Thelonious Monk, among others, as well as one of the bandleader's own compositions. Adderley's blues-influenced phrasing and the harmonic language of modern bebop were brilliantly showcased. Verve Vault Series: cut and mastered from the original analog tapes by Ryan K.
