For her first Telarc release vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway sets out to prove she is not just a cabaret type singer, but is infact capable of belting out far more challenging songs. `Blues In The Night' is a dynamic and stirring collection of American Songbook classics, mixed with potent and witty original songs. The recording contains several jazz standards, but with arrangements and interpretations that are far from standard. "This is the feistiest, gutsiest, most let-your-hair-down CD I've ever recorded," says Callaway. As well as being a renowned vocalist Ann has also written songs for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross and Celine Dion. On `Blues in the Night', Ann is backed by a trio consisting of Christian McBride on bass, Lewis Nash on drums and Ted Rosenthal on piano, with the Diva Jazz Orchestra providing backing on four tracks.
