Popis
Very early in their career, The Doors played at a small, nondescript club called The Matrix, owned by Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane. At the time, the rule was that L.A. bands had to play at the Matrix when they came to San Francisco - as a "tax" and tribute to the bands that had built the local scene. The Doors gladly obliged, and co-owner Peter Abram recorded the band's two performances on March 7 and 10, 1967. The set soon included popular covers of The Doors like "Gloria" and blues favorites like "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" that would come to define their influence and sound while they worked on originals like "Break on Through (To The Other Side)." The complete set of both concerts had been released before, but after the release it turned out that the recordings were from third generation tapes. In subsequent years, The Doors have located the first generation recordings, and this is the first time the sets from those evenings have been released in their entirety. This is sure to cause discussion as highlights of the shows have been released as RSD packages over the years and fans have been eager to have the complete shows from the first generation recordings in their collection. The 5-LP + 7" and 3-CD box set includes new liner notes by Joel Selvin.
