Acclaimed sitar player, producer and composer Anoushka Shankar announces a new mini-album, "Chapter I: Forever, For Now," to be released on limited vinyl and all digital platforms alongside the kick-off of her North American tour in October 2023. The four new tracks form the first chapter of a mini-album trilogy that Shankar will write and release as an ongoing story between her tours. Guests on Forever, For Now include Nils Frahm (piano, glass harmonica, harmonium, slit drum), Gal Maestro (bass) and Magda Giannikou (accordion). The album was produced by Pakistani singer, composer and Grammy winner Arooj Aftab, with whom Shankar already collaborated in 2022 on the track "Udhero Na" - heard on the deluxe edition of Aftab's highly acclaimed album Vulture Prince. Forever, For Now follows July's live album Between Us... featuring Manu Delago, Jules Buckley and the Metropole Orkest, which was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Global Album 2023." Last December also saw the release of the single "In Her Name," which commemorates the rape and murder of Jyoti Singh Pandey in Delhi ten years ago and denounces ongoing violence against women worldwide. The mood of Forever, For Now is set by the enchanting calm of the opening track "Daydreaming (featuring Nils Frahm)," a reinterpretation of a traditional Carnatic lullaby. "My mother and grandmother sang it to me as a child," Shankar recalls, "and last summer when I was in the garden with my two sons, I was playing my sitar when one of them got tired and lay down on my lap. As I began to find this melody from my childhood, he fell asleep, and I remember trying to savor and capture the beauty of that moment. This song is a snapshot of the afternoon sun shining through the leaves, of roses in full bloom, of a child falling asleep on his mother's lap, of the preciousness of a single moment fully lived and experienced. In fact, the whole chapter is about that very feeling of being fully in the fullness and transience of a single moment - forever, for now."
