Throughout his impressive career, Neal Morse played in several bands, including Spock's Beard and Transatlantic, leaving both in 2002. After the Christian faith took an increasingly important role in his life, he launched his solo career and in 2012 formed NMB: The Neal Morse Band, which, in addition to the singer and multi-instrumentalist, consists of Mike Portnoy, Randy George, Bill Hubauer and Eric Gillette. In 2021 they release their new, fourth album "Innocence & Danger". NMB wrote and recorded a total of ten tracks for the record. While the initial inspiration came primarily from Hubauer and George, the ideas flowed from there with everyone. Six years after their debut "The Grand Experiment", Morse is more enthusiastic than ever about the talents and contribution of his bandmates: "The band is really so exceptional - and is such a great team: Mike's drumming is great, Randy's bass playing is a perpetual foundation, and Eric's vocals have become insanely good: often I sing the verse, Eric sings the chorus, Bill sings the bridge, and Eric brings it home. It seems to work really, really well. And both Bill's and Eric's soloing is amazing: they really hit the mark on this record." Compared to the previous two albums, each of which were concept albums, it is now noticeable that "Innocence & Danger" does not follow any particular plan. Drummer Mike Portnoy commented, "After two sprawling double concept albums in a row, it was refreshing to write another collection of unrelated individual songs in the vein of our first album." A double album, "Innocence & Danger", like its predecessors, has become nonetheless. No wonder: in addition to a couple of four- to five-minute songs and others over seven minutes long, there's a half-hour epic and another that's about 20 minutes long. According to the band, they simply had too much material. "We actually went in with a lot of ideas that weren't necessarily developed, and I think in the end we have something that represents the best of everyone in the band," says Randy George.
