Before Kelly began work on his third album, he moved out of his Nashville home and into an old Victorian bungalow in the small town of Portland, Tennessee. There he spent months in deliberate solitude, processing a series of life-altering changes he had undergone in the past year, including a very public divorce as well as major upheavals in his immediate family. "I felt the need to understand myself better and rediscover the true foundation of who I am as a person," says Kelly, who was candid about his struggle with drug addiction on his 2018 debut album, "Dying Star." Continuing to push the self-aware truth-telling he's always infused into his music, Kelly soon delved into the work on "The Weakness," and the result is an incredibly honest but deeply hopeful album that ultimately reveals our enormous potential to draw strength and beauty from the most painful experiences.
