The album "Songs For Distingué Lovers" was recorded in January 1957 during the last recording sessions Billie Holiday did for Norman Granz' label Verve. The producer provided a setting in which the singer, with her darker and more fragile voice, could once again really blossom. On the one hand, the repertoire was composed of well-known jazz standards with which Holiday could identify. On the other hand, she was surrounded by improvisationally confident musicians with their own musical personalities, some of whom she had already worked with in the 1930s and had been friends with ever since. Verve Acoustic Sounds series: stereo, mastered entirely in analog by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original tapes, QPR pressing (180 g), sturdy tip-on gatefold (Stoughton Printing), padded inner sleeve.
