He is world-famous as a conductor, but Yannick Nézet-Séguin is also an extremely versatile pianist. In the summer of 2020, when the pandemic paralyzed cultural life worldwide, he found, as he himself put it, "a kind of salvation" in playing the piano - and recorded his very first solo piano album. This was also inspired by the memory of his revered piano teacher Anisia Campos, who died that year and to whom he dedicated the album. Playing the piano, Yannick Nézet-Séguin explains, "gave me the possibility of inner observation (introspection), something that probably most of us were doing at that time - not only artists and musicians, but all people: to reconsider one's priorities, one's goals in life, and what really matters." In piano playing, then, the conductor always seeks and finds "the soothing tones as well as the painful ones, the unknown paths that composers take." This was also the guiding principle for "Introspection." The album includes eight works from four centuries, from Scarlatti to Berio.
